Taking Twilight’s human transformation (and all the learning she has to do to use it right) and using it as an analogue to her issues with controlling her new wings is cliche?
 
Taking a prom queen vote, something usually as shallow in movies as a desert pond, a dime-a-dozen vapid popularity contest, and having Twilight turn it on its head so that it’s about bringing people together under one banner in spite of their differences, making herself just a figurehead with which the student body can channel their togetherness and harmony? Something which leads to her becoming stronger and more confident, lessening her own doubts in her competency as a princess in Equestria? Being coronated twice, once to prove to the WORLD that she’s worthy, and a second time here to prove to HERSELF that she’s worthy?
 
All THAT is cliche?
 
Because to me, it sounds like writers who TOOK obvious cliches and made something out of them that DEFIED convention, and made it into something strangely unique, and delightfully relevant to the issues Twilight has to deal with in the series RIGHT NOW.
