I commented in more detail on the full-chapter image, but to avoid spoilers for later pages, she knew that Cadance could easily defend herself against that attack. She lashed out anyway because she’s in a bad emotional place. Keep in mind the letter you saw her start to write before Cadance even entered the room, and also keep in mind that this comic doesn’t use the comics canon when it comes to Sunshim.
What I was thinking. Like what was going on through her head?
I guess being still relatively young like maybe 30 by the time of the movie, Cadence’s at the peak of her power.

It actually makes a lot of sense canonically. Aside from Twilight, Cadance is the only princess to have demonstrated the kind of combat reflexes necessary to do this, as shown in the movie when she was the only princess with a quick enough reaction time to at least try to mount a defense. (I’m ignoring comic book evidence, if only because I am unfamiliar with any.)
