I just checked the news archive over on Equestria Daily and there were in fact a total of nine fan-created ponies for Tell Your Tale.

Now let’s see… count up all the ponies in this image, subtract the ones we know are not fan-made, and the number you get here is… nine! Yes! That’s right! All nine fan-created ponies are shown in this one image!

I guess the animators wanted to quickly throw in one last appreciation to the fans who had submitted the entries that became these ponies.
