“That awkward moment when a spinoff wanting to ride on Monster High’s success is better made by Mattel than Hasbro.”
so fitting.
Yeah there’s way too much moral panic over that nonsense in the west, thanks to all the high-profile manhunts/kidnappings of the 90s and the subsequent ‘named laws.’ I think cartoonists and scriptwriters are generally afraid that if they show any authentic bonding it’ll immediately misconstrued as something it’s not. So, they only come up with two options for us to choose from, ‘terribly un-hip and lame best-friend dad’ who has not one interest in common with any of his children, and ‘wild and caraaazy party dad’ (like in LPS and Jimmy Neutron) who acts like he’s a 14 year old that just discovered Twisted Sister.
As a fan of Princess Maker series, Im totally down with awesome single dad.
They are more common in eastern media than western entertainment, probably people think a caring single dad is creepy in the west?
I miss watching Full House and The Nanny.
Also too many tv dads are all wild and caraaaazay, like Blythe’s and Jimmy’s and Kim’s. I think it’d be fun to have the dad be super-relatable to his daughter and hang with her more than people his own age/gender. :D
Completely understandable.
We also have other fandoms like act the same like Harry Potter,Homestuck,Avatar,Naruto,Star Trek,Adventure Time,Doctor Who,DC,Marvel, etc.
I was never been a big fan of Monster High,I don’t hate it,just couldn’t get into it and it seems that Ever After High is going to be pretty much the same for me,but like you,I’ll check it out for Cerise Hood.
it is just weird for me, someone who is a fan of both MH and FIM, to go on the Internet and see the same raging from both fandom.
Samething from the MWO fanbase.
it’s like Im surrounded by fanrage wherever I go. lol
but I’m still going to check out EAH for Cerise Hood, who is hinted as the daughter of Big Bad Wolf although website list her as Riding Hood’s.
>Those reactions
Hahahahaha,oh wow xD familiar indeed.
the reaction of some MH fan to EAH reminds me of how some FIM fan react to EQG.
because one of the MH character is moving to EAH, some fan are crying that MH is ruined FOREVER, that Mattel is destroying the fanbase and out to get fan’s money!!!1one
C.A. Cupid is leaving Monster High
But I kinda like the idea: The daughters and sons of famous fairy tales characters preparing themselves for their destinies but at the same time some of them are looking to walk their own path and choose a destiny of their own…
…the thing is that once again,it has a High School setting.
Not much more stuff of this at the moment it seems.Well, aside from the webshorts, profiles and (obviously dolls).
Also, something is wrong with the way they set up things. If the main character is supposed to be the daughter of Snow White, then shouldn’t Prince Charming be related to her or something? Then again, her last name is “White” so…
In any case,The successor of the Little Red Riding Hood became my fave. And I would even consider buying her doll.
I know. Like I said, they seem to be for people who don’t like some of the more goth-inspired hints of Monster High.
I just think it’s funny when you compare how Hasbro markets something compared to Mattel.
theres dolls too for this
Possibly. I’ve seen a theory that EqG in general is trying to attract kids/parents for whom Monster High is too “extreme.”
This seems to be them covering that themselves. The only difference is that Hasbro has to be throwing more money at theirs than Mattel. The latter just does webisodes, Hasbro has to scream that it exists from the highest rooftop and have the only company that has made them money in the last few years make something for them.
i dunno, its a spinoff to appeal to those girls who want something girlier, i suppose
personally not my thing, but it’s nice for people who do like it.
But why? Modern interpretations of fairy tales aren’t anywhere near as good as the concept of the children of Hollywood monsters.
An attempt at competing with the middle ground EqG is straddling, maybe?
its another school with fairy tale characters offspring shrug
Not only Monster High set in a high school, but a magical one with weird stuff happening constantly. Is there really a demand for pseudo-Victorian fashion now? Outside of bad steampunk, I mean.
