A bat and ball together cost $1.10. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
The hard part is realizing that it says “the bat costs $1.00 more than the ball” and not just “the bat costs $1.00”.

Yeah, but you’d be surprised how many people really do get that one wrong. Of course, it’s easier to miss when it’s not among a bunch of other math problems which means you are already in a state of mind looking for the details.
Such as me, apparently. As I see it only as “110-100”, which of course would instead equal “10”.

There are complex solutions to it, but I don’t know if there are closed forms for them.
🍔=6 is simple.
If you know some basic complex number, 🍟=±i (or ±j as some might prefer) isn’t too hard either.
The thing is
🥤^(±i)
which really means
exp(±i * Log(🥤))
or equivalently
exp(∓Arg(🥤)) * exp(±i * log(|🥤|))
exp(∓Arg(🥤)) * (cos(log(|🥤|)) ± i*sin(log(|🥤|)))
assuming we only take the principal value.
This is as far as I can do myself. I don’t know how to solve it, though I would guess that there are solutions, just from the looks.

From a basic knowledge of math (it was never my strong suit) I don’t think it can work. The problem is the second equation.
Burger = x
Fries = y
X + X + X = 18, so X=6
But X + (Y * Y) = 5
In order of operations, you do parenthesis (and multiplication) before addition. And since we know X=6, for the equation to equal 5, (YY) has to equal -1. But a negative times a negative equals a positive and a positive times a positive equals a positive. So there is no way for YY to equal a negative number.
Now, I realize there is probably some sort of high-flying advanced math that would answer this puzzle, but that’s beyond me.

TBH this one is so simple that you don’t even have to treat it as an equation system. You can just do it top to bottom.
