Just to clarify, I don’t entirely hate the show. I just strongly feel like it missed the mark when sticking the landing.

If others enjoy it as it is that’s perfectly valid, everyone’s got their own preference.

Eh, that’s fair - I don’t agree, but I can totally see why you would feel that way.

As far as the link between the two generations, I honestly like how G5 could interrogate some of the things G4 did - like with Alicorns. I had wondered about a couple things since The Journal of the Two Sisters - namely, what if there were evil Alicorns, as well as about their homeland. And hey, G5 delivered, even if it just scratched the surface with the latter (that’s pretty much my number one wish if MYM gets another order or another series goes to production- an exploration of Skyros). I personally feel that G5 struck a good balance between calling back to G4 with familiar things, but also of being its own thing.

And, okay, if that’s what you see, that’s what you see, but I don’t see that at all - I think the character models (especially the ponies) are much more detailed, well-articulated, and well animated (especially in the later chapters) than Filly Funtasia. Plus, the design is so much better IMO. From the nice body fuzz to the well-detailed mane to the adorable ear twitches and expressive faces, the characters don’t look plastic to me - which is exactly what Filly Funtasia’s character models resemble (at least to me).

It might just be my own bias talking, though - full disclosure, the G5 CG art style is my favorite MLP art style - yes, even more than FiM’s style.

As far as the dragons go, I can understand why they’re somewhat controversial, but I’ve gotten used to Spike’s design (I think it was the writing and voice acting making him very much feel like Spike that helped) and I honestly like the other dragons’ designs, even if they obviously use the same base model. I don’t think the uniformity is necessarily a bad thing, with how out there some of the G4 dragon designs could be.

That’s a shame, I liked Make Your Mark, preferring it more than Tell Your Tale which does have its good moments

I always kind of figured that G4 Earth Ponies (as a whole) excelled in sheer streagnth and endurance as well as possesing a natural sense of industrial ingenuity that made up for their lack of magic and flight.

I dunno, as a standalone series I think it would work well, but since they tried to make it a direct follow up to G4? It just comes off as wonky to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that G4 was perfect ( I’ve often voiced my criticisms about the later seasons) It just felt like when it started it was desperately piggybacking off of G4 rather than try to become it’s own show.

Couple that, and I cant say that I’m much of a fan of the 3D designs that they decided to go with. It’s like they took the rigs from Filly Funtaisia and just decided to give them all a recolor. I know budget constraints and work with whats cost effective, but did they really have to go and make Spike look the way he did?! I mean yeah , he’s supposed to be like this wise old chieftan or village elder, but the way they designed him and the rest of the dragons?!?! They all look like some kind of horrific genetic experiment gone horribly wrong. Like as if someone took the DNA of Barney The Purple Dinasour and spliced it with that of some random scuzzed out methhead and this is the end result.
I appologize if I’m coming of as crass, it’s just some of the character designs just don’t sit well with me for some reason.

I laughed when Seth treated this like it was news - we’ve known since, like, June of last year, that chapter 6 was the last chapter - of the initial order. It’s still possible that we get more.

I mean, the whole thing with the Earth ponies getting active magic was, I thought, a welcome thing - their “magic” in G4 was really subtle to the point of being almost non-existent. Also, Izzy has been stated to be a genius engineer (in addition to a gifted creative) as far back as the movie, it’s nothing new.

And Sunny gradually learns not only how to control her Alicorn abilities, but what being the Alicorn means, in order to bring ponies together. It’s one of the key underlying progressions

I heard that Hasbro is already planning on scrapping G5 due to how lackluster their sales have been due to the series poor reception. But I kinda called it, G5 ended up being the equivalent to Dragon Ball GT. You either love it or You hate it. I honestly felt like the series was undergoing some kind of identity crisis. Rather than focus on character growth as the series continued, it felt like the writers were simply throwing in whatever they thought would grab the audiences’ attention for the time.

Like how they decided to make all earth ponies geomancers, or how Izzy likes arts and crafts but makes a high tech visor for Zipp? Where did she learn that? MIT? All the while Sunny is now the “Guardian Of Magic” yet the writers don’t have her learn how to properly control her abilities.

It just feels like a bunch of half thought ideas and wasted potential all for the sake of a quick cash grab. But then again what’ to say that this wasn’t Hasbro’s plan all along? To release something that they know would be not as good just so that whatever they release next will look better by comparison regardless.

Oh come on, MYM can’t end. We want more! We want more! We want more!

It feels so weird to be thankful to read the word “final”. But I look forward to G6. They’ve made enough mistakes to learn from them by now, right? I am going to miss the G5 cast a little.
