I do agree. Casting MLP characters as DC characters is a tough job. It seems much easier for Marvel where one character can expand to a lot of roles.

I can’t see anypony really as the brooding Dark Knight, except maybe Luna if it’s done right.

Applejack as Supes is probably the only casting that can’t be argued with. So many positives for it and practically zero negatives.

Well, thanks for the kind words and fair little analysis there.

As something I’ve been doing for a good 2 years or more…It’s really important to me.

I do still think it’s a little silly to refer to a Pegasus’ wings like it’s some super power. It’s not special for a unicorn to use magic nor a Pegasus to fly and there’s still plenty of gadgetry that someone like Twi or Dash would make good use of. (Dash in particular would still love a bitchin’ car, for example)

Dash even admitted AJ was stronger than her when she stopped a bus with her bare hooves. (Mare-Do_well ep)

I also think AJ and Clark are much more similar in terms of persoanlity than any other casting given they have the exact same countryside, humble family upbringing that make them the ones with the least emotional baggage. A brooding dark hero like Batmare is Ill suited.

Glad to here you enjoy my blog.

I’m not jumping on any Bandwagon (personally I’m a big fan of your blog as well Blackbewhite2k7) but the role of AJ in DC can be for a lot of people.

I’ve seen art of AJ mainly as Supes, Bats, Wonder Woman or a Green Lantern.

I can see Applejack as all of them.

For AJ as Batman it could work. Personally I’m not as big a fan of it compared to Applejack as Superman but I don’t wish to kill it with fire. But it also has many ways of not working.

Here are some simple reasons. And before anyone makes accusations, I am not here to hate on anyone, I’m just making some points.

Ways on it to work:

Number 1* Origin.

Bruce Wayne is rich. It’s pretty much the main way he has the armor and weapons. Applejack’s family business is successful but I doubt AJ has enough bits to don a suit that can take bullets.

However, Applejack’s aunt and uncle in Manehatten are sophisticated at the least and must be rich in some sense. To make it work in context, AJ has returned home, gained a Cutie Mark and is a happy family with her parents, grandmother, brother and now recently-born little sister. But during a family reunion, tragedy strikes as not just her parents, but her aunt and uncle end up being killed. Whether it’s full out murder by a pony or something else like an accident or maybe a Timberwolf isn’t sure. All that has to be made is that one of her parents tried to help. The failed heroics starts her inspiration of helping others. Because of her aunt and uncles death, she is named as the heir to their fortune which gives her the money.

This might not work however unless it’s an AU (wait, her being Bats is basically an AU). This forces AJ to move to Manehatten. Her brother cannot go with her as he is now the head of the barn and her grandmother is too old and her younger sister too young. There she finds her only companion is a kind, newly-reinstalled butler. AJ is damaged from the events and upon seeing the crime in Manehatten, decides to take charge of it.

Number 2* Their abilities. I must say the only real problem I have with Rainbow Dash as Batman is her wings. Funny enough since that’s my problem with her as Superman as well. Batman in my vision, a canon character or an OC, would be an Earth Pony. The Grapple Gun is one of the most famous Batman weapons alongside Batarangs and is used for Batman to get around since he can’t fly unlike most of his many allies. RD being a Pegasus makes the weapon quite useless unless in a situation where her wings are injured.

Bruce relies on simple strength, his brains and his gadgets to defeat his enemies. No superpowers just skills earned from hard work. AJ has the determination and hardened focus to become quite a pony to face if she actually did work on it (like Bruce). She is a strong pony as is Bruce a strong man.

A reason for this not working however is Applejack would not have the idea of a weapon like a Batarang in her mind. She’s old-fashioned in the liking she wouldn’t be imagining all these cool gadgets. That’s why I think of her as Supes. Literally all he has to his name is pretty much his costume. RD would be the type to brainstorm all these ideas for weapons to use.

Number 3* Personality. I am not going to start shouting ‘RD is nothing like Bruce Wayne’ because I have seen multiples times yourself stating that you admit that she isn’t much like him and is somewhat of a parody. That I think is a great thing for you too state. People avoiding it annoys me and you saying that you know it’s not the best casting is brilliant.

Bruce Wayne is someone of a businessman; suave, charming, naive from some points to other people and can be polite and helpful (more so in the animated series. Comes off as a jerk a lot in the movies and the comics sometimes).

Batman is much more emotionless, cold and calculating. Very Anti-Hero but his heart is in the right place.

Bruce Wayne’s personality fits close to AJ. Not so much as suave but Applejack does have her moments of gushing Southern charm and she is always polite to a lot of people. She can have her moments of ‘ugh, AJ, what are you doing’ but nonetheless is a bright character.

AJ as Batman though is a long stretch to see. Of course that’s what makes it believable. Bruce Wayne and Batman do not match. That’s the idea of the masked personality between them. Applejack could learn to switch the accent to a normal, cold tone, throw on a costume, change the hairstyle from the red scrunchie and not be like herself and she’s a whole different pony and you can’t tell. Anypony could be like that if you are inventive.

Number 4* Family.

A big factor of AJ’s character is family and I find this the hardest part of thinking of Applejack as Batman. She has a very large, caring, kind family. Her main family consists of Granny Smith, Big Macintosh and Applebloom. A simple country family (which sets up her as Superman brilliantly in context).

When I picture AJ as Bats, I see her as when she starts out as the Dark Knight as not as psychologically messed up as Bruce Wayne actually is. To anyone who goes to tell me that he isn’t as insane as the people in Arkham don’t bother wasting the breath.

Applejack has a career as the Caped Crusader that runs smoothly so far. However, somepony discovers her secret identity. Somepony in her family- either Babs Seed or Applebloom and demands they take them on as their sidekick. She reluctantly agrees but it turns out well.

Until they are killed.

This is finally where AJ takes a very, very drastic turn. Her parents and aunt and uncle being murdered started the path but this ruins her completely as it is her own fault. Right now, Applejack finally takes her job seriously and changes completely.

Of course this has a very low chance of happening but if she’s going to start dressing up like a Bat, might as well make it cuckoo.

And there you have it, reasons on how it can work and how it can’t.

Once again I will state I absolutely love your blog. In fact, I’m awaiting the whole Supermare crossover with bated breath. This is just something I wished to make a point of after graduating annoyance at the barely-reasonable excuses people use for Applejack as Batman.

This was actually enjoyable to make.

I saw you’re “batmare/AJ” chart, earlier, hence I did that rebuttal chart earlier.

But it seems the only way you wanna have any discussion is through arguing so.

And Hey, I’m not the utmost popular artist in the fandom, but I’ve been at this Batmare thing for nearly 2 years now putting endless artist effort into a tuumblr blog, a comic, several casting pictures, etc. (Not that I think you really care but search artist:blackbewhite2k7 if you feel inclined)

It’s not just a simple matter of “head canon” and you think that kind of dedication and input into the fandom would earn me just a little bit of respect and recognition, but now.

But hey, I could ask the same of you.

Hence the “Parents are dead” meme being spammed to hell and back…because I’M the one forcing MY views down others, and not the other way around…

At least when I compared AJ to Superman >>312468 I actually put some thought it, rather than just marveling at the fact that She and Bruce “both got their houses destroyed” and “wore a costume” as concrete proof she’s a good Batmare.

I won’t down vote your stuff. I actually see AJ as Wonder Woman more than batman-esque. But I still like to see AJ in the batman attire and playing the role.
