Educational moment: What is depicted here is known as the croupiere (also crupiere bacul or crupper), but yes it works better than actual pauldrons (which, according to >>627837 is also called a Pauldron) since the longer neck might make suspension of disbelief that it wouldn’t reduce mobility too much harder.

It always makes me laugh how the flank pauldron is big enough to be a Space Marine’s pauldron.
