FINALLY! An actual battle in G5! I know people have given me shit for liking these when it came to what I wish G4 had more of but I’m glad to see these back.

Plus, Sunny played the battle with much more strategy than Opaline, who was blasting away trying to end things right away: she just expended enough magic to defend with shields or run, and then when Opaline had tired herself out somewhat, her friends’ power gave her the strength to deliver one decisive blow

I was going to compare it to Captain America and his shield, but Cap would have kicked her shit in.

Yes, it’s just the first battle between the two alicorns over Twilight’s legacy. Opaline is simply too weak because she doesn’t get enough dragon magic from Sparky who was just a baby, thanks to Twilight it would take her too long to get strong again so she would have to steal other people’s magic. Sunny also demonstrated that she does not master the ability to create spells, only instinctive actions such as protecting herself, shielding others and large “pushes” of pure energy, and she can imitate Opaline’s spell. If both were at full power - the battle between them would have destroyed the Dark Castle.

The next time will be possibly when the Mane 5/New Mane 6 stopped Opaline from stealing cutie marks, and maybe the final battle will be when Opaline discovered Misty’s betrayal, at the same time as she achieved her full strength - it could tip her over to the darkness. Then Sunny will also be at full strength. As the clash happened far away from the ponies’ home, Opaline and Sunny’s fight will be known much later. Perhaps when the sky is pierced by magical rays - right before the eyes of all of Equestria.

A fake Alicorn beating a real one? Yeah, whoever wrote this episode should be fired because there’s no way that Sunny could beat Opaline with her fake Alicorn form.

A little reminder: Opaline wasn’t defeated. Sunny just showed her who is the boss. They will fight again.

The problem is that opaline is no sombra or chrysalis or any of the G4 villains the others would’ve already shown why you shouldn’t underestimate them and prove to be dangerous enough to almost win meanwhile opaline does nothing to prove why we should fear her besides be a generic evil stepmother.
