It’s cheaper. Radiation hardening is expensive. It’s probably simple and cheap to make the circuitry of a radio radiation hardened, but making something like a drone’s processor (is that all that gets shut down in CoD? I haven’t played it recently, nor do I plan to) radiation hardened is tricker. I mean, I know that the RAD750 (used on NASA’s Curiosity rover) has to use several tricks to make it radiation resistant and it’s almost identical in specs as what it’s based on: the PPC750, which was used in the iMac G3s of yesteryear. You can get a PPC750 chip made by Motorola off eBay for $4, but a RAD750 chip made by British Aerospace? Going to put you back about $200,000 (2002).
Wait, no. That doesn’t make sense. The American military budget covers high expenditures like that. They could probably afford the R&D and production costs for the processors on those drones.
Maybe the EMP is powerful enough to overcome most radiation hardening used on complex circuits?
Nah. Nobody is vomiting.
ANSWER:
Yeah, gameplay balancing. Let’s go with that.
I know it’s for gameplay balance, but I see that it doesn’t make sense for only the radios to be protected.
@LonelyBrony
The radios most likely still work after an EMP.
How?
Radiation hardened circuits.
Why the other military hardware doesn’t work, I have no idea.
Guess that makes sense. I’ve always thought it was CO talking to the team through their radios, explaining how he always knows what’s going on the entire map.
@LonelyBrony
well technically, that sound is someone yelling with big voice for warning other teammates. not radio voice.
and that don’t have any radio sound effects(like buzzing and beeping) though
FUN FACT:
There are ways to shield against EMP. Most military hardware is shielded in one form or another.
I did! RvB!
Aw, you didn’t get my reference.
Electromagnetic pulse. It shuts down power and destroy everything electronic.
That never made sense to me.
The one thing I don’t understand is you get the warning you’ve been EMP’d… Over a radio.
