That’s not the least bit fair at all. Taking things out of context and hating someone over it is extremely unfair due to the fact that they’re hating someone over something that is not true.
To be fair, there’s not a hell of a lot to “look into”. It’s more of a ‘like it or don’t’ situation. You don’t actually have to understand what the artist’s intent was or how other people feel about it.
What stands out more about his comment is the “You should be ashamed of yourself for portraying MY favorite character in this way” part. As if it were somehow an assault upon him.

I wish I can blacklist comments so I don’t have to see people who clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. Don’t give me that “I don’t look into what I hate either.” If you want the right to give an opinion on anything, then you got to look at it. Don’t like it? Deal with it.
