My headcanon is that it was Celestia and Luna who were adopted, out of political necessity. In the grand Equestrian Unification, the unicorn tribe wanted to accept them as their new rulers but royal succession for the unicorns was hereditary and could not be changed. The solution was for the unicorn king to adopt Celestia and Luna as his daughters. Thus they gained a “family” of sorts, and Blueblood is descended from their adoptive sibling.
But Blueblood is adopted.
Blueblood wasn’t one despite being descendant of Celestia, sooo…
