Hundreds of layers is normal. My sketch stage alone usually takes 200. Parts of the face are on different layers. Hair is on different layer. Body parts on different layer. This is so I can move things around easily if I don’t like how things “feel.” Then it gets more layers when you start with the colors, filters, overlays, etc. Shade and highlights on their own layers, for each figure. Then there’s the back ground all with their own group of layers.
