I don’t doubt the press release said that - though early press releases hinting at G5’s geography have been demonstrably wrong in the past. They’re more of a suggestion if anything.

If the writers do consider it true, it’s fairly unrealistic IMO - but in the end it’s their choice

Well, I’m almost sure the press release for A New Generation meant that the Earth Ponies from Ponyville moved to the coast. Said release also mentioned that the pegasi from Cloudsdale moved to Zephyr Heights after magic vanished, so the Ponyville thing was meant to be about the folks living there.

There’s a 50% possibility that comics may end up being contradicted by the series later, so I am not entirely sure if what happened there counts as canon.

Ok look, you need to remember that houses like fluttershy’s are too small for a map of that size, and besides her cottage isn’t even important in g5 anyway.

You should add also Fluttershy’s cottage in the map

The distance from ponyville to Maretime Bay is pretty extreme. It feels unreasonable to say that both are the same, unless it has literally been hundreds of thousands of years (if not millions) - but perfect continuity may not be the most important for the G5 staff at this stage…

some cites can look abandoned in just a few decades, like Pripyat (a city that’s just a couple miles from Chernobyl), and the movie might have been just avoiding those locations due to the world of equestria being so huge (as huge as north America according to some), also you need to know that “both” equals 2, not 3 as you mentioned those locations there.

In the movie we have seen the treehouse of Harmony .the everfree forest and the castle of two sisters was both disappeared.
But in the comic not , fluttershy’s cottage still stand and Canterlot too.
I think it’s 1-2 centuries the gap between g4 and g5.

In the movie when the mane 5 is in the abandoned station we can see in the time table “manehattan and neighara and both are g4 locations.

with the time gap between g4 and 5, there’s no telling how long it been since the last moments of the g4 timeline, yet some say it was either 100s or 1000s of years into the start of g5.

actually with that the 3 ponies had separated, it most likely got abandoned when the separation happened, and now the town is in ruins, along with canterlot.

But the fluttershy’s cottage still stands and maybe the entire ponyville

This is the most logical map I’ve seen for gen5 equestria

i think zephyr heights is more towards the north, in the mountains that are almost as tall as one where canterlot is.

While the Tree of Harmony being enroute to Zephyr is a discrepancy, but this is still the most logical map for the time being.

There’s also the fact that they passed the tree of harmony on their way to Bridlewood from Zephyr Heights. They’d have to enter the Everfree for that.

Because it would make Sunny and Izzy’s path to Zephyr Heights somehwat confusing, if the movie’s director’s word about the mountain they saw in the end of their duet song being Canterlot is canon. Sunny and Izzy would have to be looking at the Canterlot ruins from that mountain behind it, which would mean they more or less walked in an inverted S. Of course, they may have gotten lost along the way but it still is confusing. And an early Maretime Bay map shows the lighthouse being completely opposite Canterlogic. But it is concept art (Canterlogic itself looks wildly different), so I guess it doesn’t count.
