Actually it just occurred to me that the joke here is that it’s the other way around. The people who jerk off to the Ponies think THIS guy is ruining THEIR image. That, I think is a far more reasonable sentiment.

Exactly. People will sort of put up with porn, even cartoon porn to an extent, but if they see cute little cartoon horses getting it on, eyebrows will be raised.

Yeah, I think sometimes we bronies should laugh at ourselves.

I recall this as being in response to someone who thought the artist’s pony porn made the fandom look bad.
 
It’s not an entirely unreasonable sentiment. Trying to dictate to others what they can and cannot do is a jerk move, but I can understand how someone wouldn’t want to be associated with things that most normal people would consider pretty creepy, even if intellectually they understand there’s no real harm in it. To put it bluntly, most people would prefer to be thought of as this guy than as this guy jerking off to ponies. We’re able to scoff at such sentiments because we see this stuff every day, but to other people it can be quite offputting.
