Subpar? Please, they were far better than mediocre writing of S1-2, people just have rose tinted glasses on for fresh experience. Ok, maybe ending of S2 was better than ending of S9 (sh*tcord ruined it and Chrysalis was amazing) but by and large, I wouldn’t call Nightmare Moon being defeated by a bunch of kids (and then writer forgetting about Luna, supposedly a big deal, for 30 months, to the point they forgot how she looked like and had a total redesign of her 1.5 seasons later when faust finally woke up and remembered she exists) any good writing. Nor was recycling of rejected powerpuff girls plots faust loved to do. Kirin/Pears episode beat her entire output so hard it’s not even funny…

To be fair I’m not bashing G5 or stating that Fim is superior (I’ve voiced my criticism on the writing of the later seasons plenty of times) but I feel that most people who got into G4 are having the same expectations of G5 while you have others (Youtubers) who just cling to it because they believe it will keep them relevant. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again, I really don’t see this series going further than a couple of seasons 4 tops. I say this only because people’s interest change in an instant. The main reason G4 lasted for as long as it did was because Hasbro could still market the series. Now take Equestria Girls, the moment Hasbro realized that there was no more competition for a high school themed toy linup (like Mattel’s Monster High) they pulled the plug on that series.

I’m not saying “Well G4 was an iconic series so G5 has some big shoes to fill” but the series definitely needs to come in on it’s own and form its own identity rather than trying to prove to everyone that it can do everything it’s older sibling can.

Well, you can say that for Season 8-9, they were subpar, but G4 is good, so can G5, you can say what is bad when it is G2 and G3, while G1 is a mixed bag.

Its actually doesn’t matter. If G5 turns out to be good, it will be awesome. If not, well, there is always G4 and tons of fan content.

for what it’s worth i’m mainly sticking with FiM and fandom content

But the real question, is G5 going to suceed in carrying the fandom? Even the die hards like the Bronayllasysts seemed to stumble on how they actually felt about the movie and most if not all the remaining fans are uncertain as to what direction the show is going.
