Lunar Supporter - Helped forge New Lunar Republic's freedom in the face of the Solar Empire's oppressive tyrannical regime (April Fools 2023).

Spike fans didn’t want him to grow wings or be super strong, we wanted his character to shine through.
Quit acting like you speak for the fandom because you don’t. Just because it’s something that YOU didn’t want don’t make it true for everybody else.
No, josh haber just threw wings on him and threw him under a bus to be abused for the rest of the series by smolder and sludge.
Yeah, because, you know, Spike sure wasn’t being abused before then. Oh, wait…

Actually, if you re-watch Crystal Empire part 2’s ending, Twilight refused to take credit for anything she did, insisting Spike did everything. Combine that with the crystal ponies being idiots and that’s where it stuck that “Spike is the savior of the crystal empire”. Oh, and if anyone tries to say “but he saved Twilight from the nightmare door”, remind them that Rarity was the one who told Spike to follow Twilight, and had Spike not been there, she likely would have gone with her and thus, saved her from the door.
Shining Armor and Cadance did get credit, which is why they are the rulers of the crystal empire, but no, the efforts of the mane 6 were buried by Twilight lying.
Equestria games is like some TERRIBLE attempt to rectify the fact that Spike didn’t save the crystal empire by giving him a specific thing to save everyone from, but again, it was written horribly.
Spike doesn’t “save the crystal empire” until he abandons the hollow praise from the crystal ponies and saves Thorax.

Well, as I also said, if I had to choose between the Mane Six and Spike, I’d go with the Mane Six.
Another thing about Equestria Games is this magic-disabling spell for the unicorn-spectators who passed security, you know, to prevent them from cheating, but did the head of security believe that the officials and the princesses would cheat in the games, as well?
Speaking of Equestria Games, the episode began with Spike stealing all credit after the King Sombra scenario, for himself, despite all the hard work the Mane Six, Shining Armor, and Cadance had done. The rest of Mane Six, who kept the Crystal Ponies distracted as Twilight went to find the Crystal Heart, got no credit. Cadance, who provided a shield all over the empire the whole time and returned the Crystal Heart to its position, got no credit. Shining Armor, who saved BOTH Spike and the Crystal Heart from their fall, got no credit. Twilight, who figured out the Crystal Heart’s hidden location, found the secret passage to it, made it to the top with her upside-down magic, then risked herself failing Celestia’s test for the empire’s sake by forcing Spike to deliver the heart, got no credit. Spike, who ran a short distance to a ledge, fell, and almost shattered the Crystal Heart, got ALL credit just for THAT.

As I said, every single character must get dragged down for random, non-sensical reasons for Spike to shine at all.
That’s what happened in “Equestria Games,” where some pony “accidentally” shot an arrow on a cloud and turns it into an iceblock, then Spike comes to the rescue, which was more of a redeem after the Cloudsdale Anthem he failed to sing earlier. That iceblock was also small enough for the pegasi ponies to steer easily towards the center of the field without problems. The Mane Six and everyone would’ve taken care of that situation, as well, if only the conflict weren’t so arbitrarily restricted and the episode was focusing on giving Spike the spotlight.
If I had to choose between the Mane Six and Spike, I’d go with the Mane Six without hesitation.

Only in the episodes where the “problem” is something combat related. Spike’s forte is NOT combat, but his sensibilities and realistic common-joe view of the world in a logical, up front manner. How many times have the mane 6 gone off the rails because they took something out of context and went insane over it?
How about The Break Up Break Down where Spike was 100% on the money as to what was going on, going so far as to challenge Discord over the results because of how sure he was.
THAT is Spike. Spike fans didn’t want him to grow wings or be super strong, we wanted his character to shine through. His friendship with Thorax was hard fought and earned. His friendship with Ember was hard fought and earned, and he wasn’t allowed to BE friends with them. No, josh haber just threw wings on him and threw him under a bus to be abused for the rest of the series by smolder and sludge.

Garble wanted revenge on the ponies for a reason nobody explains. Neither Twilight nor Rarity couldn’t fight the teenage dragons off despite the good old times when they already fought Changelings in “Canterlot Wedding,” for instance, and that’s the crux of the problem with Spike episodes. Every single character must get dragged down for random, non-sensical reason for Spike to shine at all.

not even one season later in this very episode, garble tries to drop spike down into well…spikes. Was gonna kill newborns for a good laugh in his first appearance

And then 1 season later, Garble tries to kill Spike with a rock…
Fuck Garble and his redemption arc, they should have turned him to stone and then hammered his ass to bits.

Indeed, Spike is a lot stronger than folks initially think. On that note, this is also where if Garble had any sympathetic aspects, he would have started to show them.
