I’m not totally sure myself either, I’ve just gone with mlp.fandom.com (used to be mlp.wikia.com) way since I used to edit the wiki, shrug.

I think the reasoning was Pegasi are an in-universe type of race.

pegasi = plural pegasus, and the way I understand, both should be capitalized. So many make that mistake.
