There are analogues to be sure, like Sunny sharing Twilight’s inquisitiveness, or Izzy sharing Pinkies exuberance, or Hitch sharing Fluttyshy’s relationship with animals, but 1-1 comparisons don’t really work when you really think about the characters. I consider that a strength of g5, because a perennial problem of g4 was the character structure and how when all six were together, it either turned into the Twilight Sparkle and Friends show or this looks like a job for Aquaman! type character challenges. TBF to g4 they were able to mitigate it a lot of the time, but it was still a struggle.

Zipp for example, comes across as on their hooves smart, and not just book smart like Twilight was. She’s also athletic, but that in this movie at least comes across more as an application of practical skills moreso than a competitive drive like both RD and AJ had. It means that despite the jokes (which I admittedly laugh at as well) about being the new RD, Zipp and all the new main characters for that matter, aren’t really categorisable in the same way the main characters from g4 were.

While I can see where you’re coming from with the AJ comparison, I also think that doesn’t apply to Zipp either, because AJ could be stubborn and headstrong, which are traits we haven’t seen from Zipp.
