Yes, apprenticeships can start as early as 16 or so, but old-time apprenticeships also can last a decade, or even longer. Someone in the 1800s who apprenticed under a blacksmith would usually start at about 15 and last to a minimum of age 21 (though sometimes longer). Heck, I personally was a student until the age of 24 (university), which is yet another point that disproves someone being student automatically implies that they’re younger than 20.

Rainbow basically had to have dropped out years ago in order to have the time to move to Ponyville, get a job on the weather team, then advance in the ranks until she was manager.

You’re the one shoving headcanons, saying that Rainbow was a student at the start of the show (a drop out isn’t a student) or that Twilight was under 20 simply because she was a student. I have been bringing up actual evidence and sharing them, like Rainbow’s ACTUAL job and the independence of Twilight’s school colleagues at the start of the show.

I’m not saying they were 100% definitely older than 20, just that there is (non-definitive) evidence that they were, and that your proof for them being younger than 20 doesn’t hold water.

Rainbow almost certainly dropped out years before the show started. If someone drops out at say, age 15, they’re not a student anymore, nor are they considered younger than 20 forever. She was in Ponyville long enough to not only get a full time job, but to ascend to a managerial position, in charge of dozens, if not hundreds, of pegasi, and that’s very indicative of being older than a teenager.

Yes, Celestia took Twilight under her wing as a student, but apprenticeships last a long time. She’d graduated from the actual magic school by the time of the series starting and was working under Celestia as her protege, which is a type of student that always lasts to over the age of 20.

Yes it was; we literally see them in the same class together in a flashback, and Twilight specifically calls them her friends in school. We see the likes of Lyra having her own life in Ponyville in season 1, which is the important time frame here.

Rainbow was a school dropout and was supposed to be still a student. Celestia took little filly Twi as a personal student when she saw Twi’s insane entry test.
And if you mean her old Canterlot friends from “Amending Fences” it’s never said those where her co-students. Those were just her old Canterlot friends. And that’s also not the start of the show but the 12th ep of season 5.
In my headcanon the mane six in human years are for Dash and Twi ~16, AJ and Pinkie ~18, Rares and FS ~20

Rainbow Dash was the Ponyville Weather Team manager, not a student.

Twilight was in an apprenticeship to Celestia, which is not the same as high school. Apprenticeships in real life generally last until they’re in their mid to late 20s, and all her magic school compatriots (Lyra, Minuette, etc.) were living independently by the start of the show.

The mane 6 are also not the same age. I reckon Flutters and Rarity have a couple of years on their friends while Dash and Twi are the youngest (still students at the start of the show).

There is no canon age for any character on the show, with conflictions everywhere. You could imply the main six are teens from their EG counterparts, but Rarity owns multiple businesses and all of them clearly live alone. At the same time, characters at the size of Star Tracker and Sandbar could be inferred to be early teens but Sandbar goes to the friendship school which seems to have an age range jumping from full-grown adult to filly size if Cozy Glow’s claims are to believed. We also have characters like Sassy Saddles who are clearly taller than Rarity but no confirmation if they are a different breed or just older, possibly implying that the main six aren’t even “true adults”. Even the writers themselves are conflicted with Spike’s age jumping from child with some writers to adult with other writers.

I dunno anything about RD being a school dropout, but what student is Twi ? If you mean being under Celly’s personal education since near the start of the show, that’s called an apprenticeship or such, which is completely diff from enrolling into an education facility.

Pretty sure Star Tracker is in his mid-to-late teens (his and Sandbar’s body type is very much like an adult stallion’s (hell, very close to an adult mare’s), so he couldn’t be as young as Aj at 12-13 or Plaid Stripes at 12-14), something like 16-17, and she’s in her 20s. Of course, we dunno what the age of consent is like in Equestria.
