By that logic, any tech from any time will make something dated.
Who gives a shit if something is dated? Especially if its something everyone uses on a day to day basis? Sounds like you are afraid of change.

Modern tech will instantly make the show dated.
Modern culture and issues will just present one side of the matter and tell you how to think, rather than present both sides and not make one explicitly correct over the other.
How does it always “backfire”? Are you some sort of expert on today’s media?
Because fan content is the work of the single artist and is completely irrelevant to the official product.
Integrating modern culture into official works that previously didn’t have them always backfires.

Aldo it’s quite funny that ponies doing “modern culture” things in art and fanfics gets a free pass yet when its official you all decide to throw a tantrum about it. Pretty hypocritical.

Pony Life was a seperate spinoff. G5 is meant to be a sequel.
I’d rather the same contextual universe not succumb to the woes of modern culture and stay it’s own thing.
Cameras are pretty old and so are phones and smartphones are going nowhere any time soon.
G4 was not purely fantasy and this is in the future
I think I said this when pony life was coming out the only thing modern about a selfie is the name.
