That said, similar setting (post-apocalyptic, if very ambiguous), but with a lot less grimdark, different weather, and less airships and time travel.
“Spike’s eyes widened as he found himself trapped. I stared into his eyes, and continued my scolding. ‘You better stop being such a bully and stop treating your friends like garbage! You have clearly been through a lot, I have been through a lot, too. But you need to stop what you’re doing right now and think about what you’ve done. You’re behaving no better than any other Dragon out there! Twilight raised you better than that! What would she say?! What would Rarity say if she saw that you had become this monster again?!’
”‘Twi…light…R-Rarity…’ Spike grumbled, his eyes softening.
”‘Our friends, Spike, yours and mine. There was you, me, those two, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and Rainbow Dash. We were like family, Spike, all of us.’ Tears were welling up in my eyes, but I held my gaze. ‘As far as I know, it’s just us, now. I need a friend, and you need a friend.’ I softened my expression, seeing in his eyes that I was talking to the real Spike inside now. ‘Come along, Spike, let’s forget what’s just happened and start over as friends, like we should be. Does that sound nice?’
“Spike nodded gently so that I wouldn’t slip, and slowly rested himself down and allowed me to step off of him. I smiled up at him as he stood up again, ‘Thank you, Spike, I always knew you were a kind dragon at heart, now let him shine through, for me?’
“He closed his eyes and nodded, and slowly, he began to shrink down in size, his greed now no longer controlling his heart. I watched silently, tears streaming down my face, as my friend became the little dragon I remembered him as.
“Little Spike stood before me, looking very sorry and hurt by his actions, and unsure about what to do next. I raised a hoof up and ushered him over, ‘Come here, there’s a nice hug waiting for you.’
“He didn’t need to be told again, in an instant, he closed the distance between us and threw himself into my embrace, his eyes flooding with tears. ‘I’m so sorry! I couldn’t control myself, I’m so sorry!’
“I bit my tongue to keep myself from crying out in pain. I quickly relaxed and pulled Spike into a tighter hug, tears now streaming down my cheeks, and told him, as calmly as I could manage. ‘It’s okay, Spike. Everything will be okay.’”
