Late 2011. The idea of there being only two alicorns is silly to me, regardless of original vision.
Final episodes are usually written very early in the show as a planned ending. What the crew didnt expect was S4 coming up and Hasbro pretty much forcing them to make the (likely two part) series finale into a 1 episode season finale.
apperantly, my guess is that we will see this all the way ’till season 4 pramire.
The canon for alicorns is fickle considering it was intended for there to only be two. And claims that it was in the works since 2011 doesn’t sound right in my personal opinion considering Lauren still held the reigns then somewhat.
