I’ve realized now that I don’t necessarily hate Strawberry Sunrise or what she said to Applejack. I hate the episode Honest Apple and in particular this scene for equating her and Applejack’s attitudes.

People get this scene wrong. Strawberry is not in the wrong here. Rarity was the one who went up to her house, knocked on her door, and asked her to tell Applejack how she felt about apples. All Strawberry said, in the most sweet and cheerful tone possible, was that she did not like them. Then, when Applejack, in shock, asked why, she said that it was because they were not strawberries. A perfectly acceptable answer. He name is Strawberry, after all. Strawberries are her favorite food. She likes them so much, her house has a strawberry themed wallpaper. Applejack was then the one who got defensive and irate on this mare’s doorstep, this mare’s own home. Insulting her favorite food by saying apples, which Strawberry does not are for, are better than strawberries. After that, all Strawberry did was defend herself, and ultimately, won their little debate.

I remember finding the episode weird because it seemed to portray ANY criticism as wrong or hurtful. Like, none of Applejack’s criticisms on the first day were even all that harsh (before she starts going nuts with it), she just pointed out she didn’t get certain design choices and she asked about the logic behind certain designs, which the designers had no response for. This is also the entire reason Rarity brought Applejack on board, to provide a “practical” insight to everything.
 
And yet it’s portrayed like it was wrong for her to speak out at all and you never get that moment of why Applejack being practical was supposed to be useful critique, so Rarity just comes off looking like a moron for bringing her in in the first place. I don’t even think they show a “proper” way to give critique for comparison, it’s just “be careful of hurting feelings.”

Strawberry Just Pisses Me Off But My Gosh Honest Apple Is Terrible

Strawberry Sunrise pisses me off a bunch.  
Before someone goes “Its to teach Applejack honesty can hurt” or something.  
Applejack was clearly not purposely trying to piss Rarity off iirc, she was just saying what she thinks.  
Not exactly sure since I didn’t see the clip but I do know its not like how Strawberry was doing it.  
Strawberry was purposely saying it to get on Applejacks nerves, like show knows it will piss her off. Like twisting the knife in. And that annoying smug look just shows she knows she can and will get away with it because “morals”.
 
The lesson here is honesty is good, but don’t try to sound like an asshole. If Applejack came off as that, I am sure she didn’t intentionally do it. Strawberry however, was clearly doing so(and I am sure it was worse than what happened in Applejack’s case). That’s the huge problem here.
 
Yeah.. just ranting since that scene there in the episode sure got on my nerves.

There’s no such thing as a “mealyworm”. There is a “mealworm”, but that’s not what she’s saying.
 
Strawberry says “tasteless, mealy, worm-filled things”. She’s saying the apples are mealy and also filled with worms. They’re not filled with mealyworms, because there’s no such thing.

I actually hate this pony. Normally I think less of people for having emotional attachments to characters, but I actually hate her. She’s the only fictiknal character who elicits an emotional reaction from me, and it’s one of pure hatred and rage.
