A plant. Some claim that it’s from Iran, not India.
But the colour saffron, made from its dye, is considered sacred in Hinduism. It represents giving up earthly pleasures to bring oneself closer to the Gods, such as Shiva.
Unfortunately as much as it is a sacred colour in Hinduism, it’s also being hijacked by militant extremists who fight their Islamist counterparts.

From what I see and remember seeing in many documentary films is that the Hindu swastika was the most common, I don’t recall ever dseeing the “dotted and straight” swastika on flags or officer uniforms.

don’t forget the swastika is the defining symbol to Jains. to them, the swastika is like the cross to Christians. it’s a shame it got its modern reputation. people were okay with them on the Hindenburg because they didn’t know about Hitler’s true motive/ they thought Hitler was just bluffing. to be fair, the guy had a hard life. Oversimplified did a good video on him.

its still a good luck symbol in some asian counties
You are preaching to the choir. Ignorance is a choice, and the Western people need to know the history of the swastika before passing judgement.

It may surprise, maybe even shock them to learn that others have in fact looked into this once or twice, and wouldn’t you know it? Take a gander at these Non-Nazi Swastikas.

Yeah, a JEWISH swastika.

Indeed, indeed. Even in the Western world the swastika was a symbol of auspiciousness and good luck up until the 1930s. Only then did the right-facing tilted form become a feature of Nazi symbolism as an emblem of the Aryan race.

People have forgotten the old meaning of the swastika as a good luck symbol and now see it as a hate symbol. If a hate symbol’s meaning is lost to time, then it only stands to reason that some new meaning may come to be attached to it.

The original meaning of this symbol was actually meant for good. It was not until an evil man decided to take it and use it to inspire fear and pain. I personally think we need to remember the original meaning as well as the sad story of it’s infamy.
