No, the fandom shouldn’t split up. Arguing with people you don’t agree with is healthy, it keeps you from getting stuck in your own bubble. That’s much easier when you can mutually relate through, say… a common interest. Doesn’t mean you have to become best friends with everyone you have a conversation with. But I’d rather have the whole fandom arguing than have pieces of it completely unable to relate to other parts.

True. Do you think some kind of separation could work where the fandom could split up into separate communities that sometimes exchange content but mostly keep to themselves? In theory, would self-segregation into communities of like-minded people serve to prevent conflict? Or would the groups remain constantly at odds with each other?
@Twiface
That’d be a hard task, since not everyone is going to be all sunshine and rainbows. Sure, there might be the occasional BS problem, but maybe it could be handled easier with fewer people due to an unlikely long ass flame war. There are fandoms that are small and has little to no controversy and are still thriving, mainly because of the use of discord servers or DA were folks can group up together. With G5 coming up, I’m pretty sure the same ol stuff that happened with this gen’s fandom behavior might start over again. Yes it should stand united, but these unnecessary flame wars are what’s causing the fandom’s reputation to fall.
And with people fighting and confusing each other on what’s right and wrong without understanding what the main problem is and go try to resolve it, they’re not going anywhere. That’s just my theory.

I actually prefer Reddit’s layout over most other sites. But I rarely go there anymore because I can’t stand the userbase and the admins.

To an extent. I think Bronydom has become a better place since the “golden age” of the fandom since all the people who spammed low-quality memes have left. However, if a fandom is too small it can easily become an echo chamber, which is what I wish to avoid. I don’t want Bronydom to be reduced to a handful of Tumblr blogs that will shun people who disagree with them on anything. And I’d rather it not be a couple of separate echo chambers that don’t talk to each other, either. I think it needs to stand united or else it will collapse.

If a fandom dwindles enough, it eventually becomes a small group of only similar-minded people. So of course there’s going to be less controversy by proxy.

Not when there’s an active force pushing for division, all because muh wrongthink. You don’t see the massive cracks this is causing, the fact that this lunacy has reached derpibooru is telling. For better or worse I’ll always be against censors, and if any side tries to censor what makes me happy, prepare to be fought against. Tired of all this, they should go back to the womb if they need to force their views on others.

Then there shouldn’t be an issue. If you are anywhere in the middle you are more than likely not going to get called out (by /mlp/ anyway)
The only people /mlp/ are calling out that I’ve seen are the lolcows and some of the derpibooru staff

Maybe, as long as they don’t invade each other’s space.
I mean splitting this fandom up into mini-fandoms based on political views. Would it prevent flame wars like this one?
What do you mean?

Big toxic fandoms that dwindle in numbers of people means less controversy to deal with. At least from what I observed.
Yeah, nobody goes to Reddit anymore. It’s too crowded.
It could become that way in just 3-5 years. I don’t want this site to become a Reddit-style hugbox, but it definitely could.
