Here’s an idea: why even keep it a fighting game? Hey, why not just take the work they’ve already done and convert it to a side scrolling adventure? Like Mortal Kombat: Sub-zero Mythologies?

Also, I hate to say it but… Milky Way is nothing like any of the ponies. She’s to generic in terms of character.  
Her passion is finding new places, friends and experiences. Her personality is adventurous, curious, outgoing, impulsive and mischievous.  
Heck, she’s even said to be ‘What every little girl wants to be’.
 
I’m not saying she’s a Mary Sue, but…. No offense to Faust, she kinda is.

Alright, after looking at them I can see how the Mane Six can be translated into some of them.
 
Uranus could be Twilight since they both like books and learning.  
Mars could be Pinkie Pie since they both are somewhat odd… in a good way. But also like Saturn since they both like Parties and such.  
Jupiter is definitely like Fluttershy; they both like animals and the environment.  
Pluto could be like Dash since they’re both loyal. But Mercury too, since they’re both athletic.  
Venus could be like Rarity due to their shared sophistication.  
Can’t think of anyone Neptune would be like and no one that is like Applejack.
 
Also, The Moon is definitely Luna, in terms of personality, but The Sun is nothing like Celestia.

Yeah, I had heard of them before as Faust’s long-running personal project, but only really started looking into them tonight after seeing her tweet.  
Galaxy Girls  
You can follow that link to all 11 characters.  
They all seem pretty archetypal and distinct in both personalities and styles so I think they would make a pretty good fit for a game like this (or a TV show as they were intended to have).  
And yes, they all have skates on, but I’m not sure what the reasoning behind that is.

This was actually my first thought when I saw that tweet. It could either be that or something entirely original just for the game. Either way, could be neat.

Looks neat. I guess Uranus is like Twilight Sparkle and Mercury’s like Rainbow Dash.  
Tho those seem like pretty archetypal characterizations for girls, really. Plus, Dash was supposed to be Firefly, so she’s more like Firefly it seems.
 
Also, this is the first time I’ve really seen some of those characters. Do they all have roller skates on?
 
But as characters for a fighting game, they could be neat as the main characters. I remember seeing a japanese fighting game with girls only that had some sort of spirit assists that could be very similar to that, at lest in fighting mechanics.

Actually, i think it was the other way around.  
Lauren was trying to pitch her Galaxy Girls idea, Hasbro didn’t want it, but they saw her talent and asked her if she’d be interested in remaking MLP for them.  
You can even see where she took some of her Galaxy Girls character ideas and integrated them into pony.

As for putting them in the Mane6 game, I actually had exactly the same thought when I first saw Lauren’s tweet.  
She still has full control of the characters (as they are hers) and this could be a great way to get them out in the public eye some more!  
I say ‘Go for it!’
