Literally just say “this video is meant for ages 13 and up so we can actually TALK TO EACH OTHER AND DISCUSS”.
This stupid “lock the comments” stuff COPPA has caused is really just bad
Edited
Not true but ok, you don’t need to pay anything, the algorithm Is made expressly to avoid those fines.
So as long as you mark videos correctly nothing happens.
The 42k fine Is for YouTube, while you could get a fine depending on the earning of your video, but It never happens, but you Stil can easly get a strike and get your account terminated
YouTube is responsable for what you post, they have to pay fines to COPPA, that’s why they became more
strict, last year they had to pay a 170 million dollars fine
Before you say anything else, a friend of mine has to go through this process and has to pay nothing, so…
Edited
It’s a problem of a lot of TV show’s actually
Because now we can’t see what other fans react on Youtube on those more often viewed clips.
Nor can we be able to discuss stuff due to the comments got shut off.
Yes, I know there’s Derpibooru here but the fact still remains that now its harder for fans of MLP to interact with each other on YouTube(a major place) or talk. Especially since I am pretty sure there is so many fans who talk on YouTube but not talking on here.
I freaking want to see what other fans react and discuss with them on there but now I can’t.
Ugh..
I’ve been downloading songs I like and storing them on my computer
Is this not The Done Thing? I have over a hundred hours of horse music on my desktop machine at home. I specifically keep an old version of iTunes to prevent it from fscking with my metadata the way recent versions do.
So if a kid post a video over PG they’ll have to pay $42,530? Wow…
Yup. That’s the new law for YouTube and many YouTubers are NOT HAPPY about it.
I understand that Coppa wants to keep the kids safe while they’re on YouTube but an $42,530.00 fine is going too far.
But that’s the new law for YouTube now so if you don’t want to pay up that expensive fine then better keep your YouTube channel ‘kid-friendly’ if you have one.
Oh, and that new law is also why most YouTubers are closing up their channels and leaving YouTube for good.
And it’s hurting the YouTube business right now.
Not only you have to pay if you don’t follow the rules, the channel will be marked “child friendly” and it will basically get butchered.
The videos that are “child friendly” will no longer have the comments turned on, you will not be able to add them to any playlist whatsoever and the channel will not get recommended to new youtube users. Aside from not gaining any revenue from the videos themselves.
I think I can get the people behind Coppa’s measurements to protect the kids but come on, some of these things are just too harsh on the content creators.
But MLP is set at TV-Y and once or twice TV-Y7.
Wait so you’re telling me, if any video that anyone including me post a video over PG he/she/they have to pay $42,530? Half of YouTube is basically PG!
Coppa means ‘Child Online Privacy Protection Act’.
Clearly that law requires that if you’re planning to post videos aimed for kids on YouTube then it must not have any images or words in the video that would be rated above the PG rating.
Any YouTube videomaker that breaks that new law will be fined up to $42,530.00 just for breaking that law!
That’s a lot of money! That’s why the people making videos for YouTube are angry and furious at Coppa right now for making that new law.
And since Letupita725HD got coppa’d he has to pay up the $42,530.00 fine to Coppa now.
That’s why YouTube’s business is in trouble now. People are closing their channels and leaving YouTube because they don’t want to pay up that much money on an fine.
It has good intentions but people are divided, some think it’s completely fine but others think Coppa has ruined Youtube.
Look, dude, this is getting stupid, I still say that no one is truly right and that Coppa may be taking things hard on the wrong people, but I guess you’re just not going to listen to me anyways.
Let’s just drop it here, okay? It’s clear that I can’t change your point of view and you won’t change mine. And it doesn’t matter who is right in here, things won’t change because of a silly argument on this site.
So I’ll stop, truce?
I know you said that. COPPA has been around since 1998; it’s always done this. YouTube is the one that messed up.
“Back in my day—!” Yeah, I heard you the first few times you mentioned that. In today’s day and age, it’s really hard to monitor what your kid does on the phone/tablet/computer all the time; not know what their kid does 100% does not make them bad parents. Having a safety rope can help. Yes, there are terrible parents who let their kids get their brains crapped in by kid videos, but now those bot-driven 3D animated “Hulk farts on Wonder Woman then turns into a spider” can’t monetize their villainy.
I think you mean bureaucrat, and no, I’m not. I just find this outcry for something that barely means anything to be hilarious. The only people freaking out are the ones who are misinformed.
It’s the FTC
You didn’t understand ANYTHING of what I said.
I clearly said that it was both Coppa AND Yt’s fault.
And YES, the problem are also bad parents who don’t make an effort into being better parents.
You’re quite defensive of Coppa, are you like a burocrat or something?
