at least give a good evidence and not use dramatic words that would imply something else. To undermine a character would mean said character’s entire work comes undone or subverted because of something other character does discreetly. if Starlight doing a Twi impression for six seconds made AJ tell a lie after trying to say the truth for 20 something minute then YES Starlight would have undermined AJ.
 
But THIS? AJ wasn’t dumbed down, her character was spot-on, and she was the smartest pony in the room.
 
The audience’s reaction to the scene has no bearing on what the character does on screen.

AJ was wholly in-character while being the most mature character in that episode. She even found the best solution without compromising her integrity and sincerity. It was AJ’s episode the whole way thru.
 
Starlight was there as a joke character. In fact that’s her role for the entire post-ending recap eps.

Not true, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash have had two of the most memorable moments ever. It’s not Starlight’s fault that AJ never does anything interesting at all.

Applejack’s last appearance ever completely undermined by Starlight pretending to be Twilight for a few moments.
 
Gotta love how the only characters who are appearing in every single one of these “episodes” are the only ones who are actually getting anything memorable out of them.

Apparently changing hairstyles in equestria is a piece of cake. At least for a while…
