How foul smelling?

Well, besides being the most foul-smelling skunk in Equestria thanks to Ecosis’ magic, she can deflect enemy magic against the caster by absorbing said magic and using it through her tail. (Though this is only used as a last-resort.) She can also use her cuteness to distract enemies a la Puss in Boots.

She’s Abigail the Beloved, Prince Ecosis’ special assistant. She’s the one who helped him discover his cutie mark after he used his magic to heal an injury she had.  
And soon, Ecosis got attached to her and allowed her to be his special assistant like Spike is to Twilight. (He never uses the word “pet.” He values animal life just as much as he values pony life.)  
Everywhere Ecosis goes, Abigail goes with him. She also can speak to him, as Ecosis can translate animal noises.

Is the skunk important?

After Celestia gravely neglects Ecosis in favor of her students, he leaves Equestria to live in the wilderness with his animalistic subjects. He’s originally a human from Earth who was orphaned and lonely, and Celestia brought him to Equestria to promise him an eternal life of nothing but love and harmony.  
But, when he fears that he’s about to relapse into his old life again, he wants to stop that from happening. So, he declares war on Celestia, with the intent of dethroning her and taking the crown for himself, so no one can ignore him any longer.  
But, war against a strong pony like Celestia is no piece of cake. So, he needs an army to go against her. So, he manages to convince the three most hated enemies against Equestria, Queen Chrysalis and the Changeling Hive, King Gilbert and Griffonstone, and Dragon Lord Charcoal and the Dragonlands, to unify their land and go to war against Equestria, as Equestria has something they all want, and Ecosis promises to give them what they want once he has control over Equestria.  
This picture marks the beginning of what would be the worst war in Equestrian history.

What’s the story behind this?

Ah yes… a very infamous time of my immortal life.  
A time when I turned against my mother and combined my naturistic forces with my future wife Queen Chrysalis and the late King Gilbert Griffon and the late, former Dragon Lord Charcoal.  
I’m glad I was able to reconcile with my mother and help Chrysalis see the light as well. :)
