By far that April Fools as the one I hated the most. I couldn’t look at the website for more than 30 seconds before I started to get a migraine

Hey, look at that big true. This website is trying to be a time capsule. Who thought these text fields were acceptable? Why the fuck does multimedia suck here? Browsing through content on this website feels like me going into a dense jungle with a machete. I should be able to browse stories, pics, video links, and news without going to another fucking website. Not to mention the how god awful the forms are. The only redeemable part of this website is your top tier mod Derpy Hooves. That and Hasbro didn’t shut you guys down. O yeah, and the filters, at least you did that right. Content creators don’t have direct links to fund them? They need to go and add it to description or hope someone stumbles upon them. No bottomless scroll? Why cant i browse my favs from when i added them most recent? I need to use characters to change my text really? Everything about this website is clunky and dated. Its lazy, its not excusable, and something must change.

I am so glad that I was too late to join that party… xD 10yo me would’ve really struggled to anything on the pre-Web internet, I had enough difficulty with learning to code in BASIC in the 80s! xD

slight pedantry here because i know this meme’s year choice is obviously for the sake of the rhyme but before the advent of the world wide web in 1993, the internet didn’t really look like much of anything. the only graphics you could’ve hoped to find were colored text and ASCII art (see the example below) - in fact, the very first photo ever put on the internet was uploaded in 1992. this year’s april fools theme was meant to capture the essence of the geocities/angelfire era of around 1996-2000.

The internet has barely been around for 30ish years. I imagine that in 20-30 years from now,kids with their brain implants that connect them to the net instantly will look at us now with our key boards and domains with the same cringe as we look back now.

I remember when I first came online in 1998, at the age of not-quite 16.
 
My ISP at the time was Freeserve (bought out in 2000).  
My homepage was the search engine Altavista.  
My first website, which I wrote entirely in Notepad, was a Powerpuff Girls fanfiction website that I hosted on Fortunecity. (Then Geocities, then Yahoo!Geocities, then Tripod…I didn’t have much luck finding a stable host xD).  
The first online group I was part of was on Yahoo!Groups, back before they filled up with spambots. :P
 
Wow, the internet has changed a lot in the last 22 years - but over that time, the change is still slow enough that you don’t really notice it as you’re going along, only when you look back at how far you’ve come in relatively so little time… xDDD

I’ve got a copy of FrontPage 2000 somewhere around here….
