But remember that Sombra broke from the plan and went solo, and on his own terms, instead of waiting when Discord had wanted them to go, so it may have been that he decided to cut his losses.
I personally don’t think Discord was a bad actor but it’s interesting to think about.
I think the latter theory makes no sense, on account of Discord doing his damndest to encourage Twilight and her friends to defeat Sombra.
If he really wanted them gone, he probably wouldn’t have done that.
I think the gem did absolutely nothing, just as that crystal ball probably did absolutely nothing in actuality.
I was wondering the same thing, but knowing Discord’s abilities, using it probably would have looked like a big presentation, but it probably would have been the placebo effect and they would have been wiped out foolishly thinking they had great powers.
Or…Discord was doing a legit coup…and was forced to bail on the plan when he was stripped of his magic and thus his ability to contain the plan
