And? Twilight wanted to stop time in Equestria to maybe defeat some future threat she knew nothing about, effectively killing everyone. No punishment. Twilight mind raped whole village to blindly follow doll just to write a letter. No punishment. Twilight mindlessly tried to drive a wedge between Trixie and Starlight just because she didn’t like Starlight making her own friends and tried to slavishly control her, almost resulting in one suicide and Starlight becoming villain again. Gee, she surely deserved stoning for that if kid that didn’t knew any better did!

Discord’s plans are by nature twisted and morally subjective. What he did is totally matching with his personality and his role in the narrative. He was reformed to be “very powerful yet not always reliable ally”. In his head, he really had good intentions and this is what counts. Discord doesn’t think in the same way as ponies do, he can be genius thinking generations ahead or be so shortsighted that he didn’t take into account the fact that his underlings could in fact located the bell. He is unpredictable, it is in his very nature. We can’t change that. It is as if to ask pegasus to cut off his wings. Sure, Discord messed up pretty bad releasing 4 villains and destroying the Tree in the process. But remember that,if it wasn’t for Discord, Starlight would never be freed and consequently, Twilight and the others wouldn’t unite and save Equestria. And if it wasn’t for Tree of Harmony’s destruction, they would never learn that elements are just symbols.
