What if the Legion of Doom working together to betray him was the actual test he had in mine? And the actual power wasn’t within the bell, but the friendship they cultivated? It would paint him as a dark counterpart to Celestia.

He never told them what it was. He may be tracking down both the bell and the book and know the three of them have it.

That depends on what Grogar is apparently tracking down is supposed to do exactly. Is it a magical artifact that’s a countermeasure of sorts, or is it just something like the Alicorn Amulet.

I don’t think it will be that easy. At least I hope it won’t. It would be lame if they just throw away Grogar like Star Wars did with Snoke. I want Grogar to be the genuine ultimate force of evil.

I don’t think this will happen! I think Grogar knows that they are planning to betray him and he is just pretending he does not know about the bell to maintain their loyalty. :P It will be a great twist for the show and it will make Grogar a stronger and awesome villain! ^^
