To chime in regarding Starlight’s “duplication” spell, I think it’s worth noting she didn’t use it in the rest of the same damn episode it debuted in, to hang out with more than one of the Mane Six, help with the problem.
The Latin translated to “like double” instead of something like “become double,” so the addition of a speed spell seems more like a “rapidly switch places” trick.
There was no evidence of her “clone” being able to interact with things independently.
Yes.
However you make it seem like magic is almost incompatible with friendship which I disagree with, strongly. Starlight is a better pony not merely because she stopped magicking her way out of friendship, but because she starts appreciating the bonding moments in non magic, non insta-fix activities.
Imagine if Starlight still had her previous attitude towards bonding activities, but all she did was eliminate magic from her routine. she wouldn’t be a better pony.
I don’t care about any Naruto comparisons or lack thereof. It’s irrelevant.
Starlight has demonstrated that she no longer turns to magic as easy out for friendship related issues. That is progress and objectively the mature and correct decision considering her prior mistakes.

My exact quote from yesterday, commenting on Starlight’s mirror spell she casted in season 6.
I made a comparison to the Shadow Clone Jutsu because THAT would have worked. So no. I still dont agree that magic ruins friendship. Just gotta find the right kind of magic. Magic doesn’t work when it replaces a core part of the bonding experience.
Edited because: Stuff
Oi vey now we’re bringing naruto into this?
Starlight made the right choice by not repeating previous mistakes. Done.
No. With Naruto Shadow Clone You put the clone to do the job and you go face to face with someone. Why should you give only 100% of your time when you can give 150% of it? 100% to your friend and 50% for the job. Unfortunately Starlight’s mirror spell isn’t Naruto Shadow Clone so it’s not useful.
But magical shortcut is useful. Imagine this: you and your best friend demands alone time to settle some things, so you use a spell to make the space you’re standing on a soundproof room. No need to find somewhr private. You make somewhr private.
Imagine you tryna bail your friend out. You rather collect some cash or wire the money and get it done asap? (assuming they didn’t demand only cash and that wire is faster) You wire the money, tell your friend he got bailed and talk to him about it the trouble he got into.
So many things magic can do to ease and facilitate better communication. I dont see why one is a worse person for wanting efficiency. Twilight is even now, as princess, very efficiency-oriented.
If a friend was upset at you for brushing her off for work, you wouldn’t try to make it up to her by saying “we’ll skype chat from my office while i work”.
No, the responsible thing to do is to make time, put in the effort and meet face to face.
Trixie would not appreciate knowing she was so unimportant to starlight that she only merits a clone and half of her attention while the real starlight keeps working.
Taking A magical shortcut to someting to someting as simple and important as making time for her best friend would prove only that Starlight has Regressed as a person, not matured.
Starlight caught on quicker than Twilight, 2ho still tryst to resort to magic to this day,
And yeah using magic as a utility for practical purposes shouldn’t even be an issue.
Imagine you using technology to help you talk to different ppl in different places. They’re magical shortcuts to friendship.
Yeah but this is the one time where I could actually come in handy or hoofy

Besides, the spell doesn’t work for this purpose. The spell is a mirror / mimic spell. The copy mirrors your movements so all you do is projecting another linked instance of yourself onto another space.
Had she casted a mirror spell, Starlight would still have to split her attention between her job and Trixie, which is the reason for the conflict.
It is NOT a Naruto-style Shadow Clone technique where each copy has the caster’s personalities, abilities, independent and can do its own thing.
Because using magic to solve basic problems has worked out so well for Starlight and her friends in the past.
Don’t take magical shortcuts to friendship seems simple but It’s a lesson that she’s ignored repeatedly. It looks like it finally sunk in.

one can be helping the students while the other and or the original can spend time with her friends Sunburst and Trixie
