the nail of the hoof is gonna be hard regardless, otherwise the hoof wouldn’t clop when they walked. so rainbow dash pounds nails in with her nails.

if you’ve ever cleaned a horse’s hoof, you’ll find that the frog is very stiff and unyielding, and quite concave. that being said, it’s possible for a lego to get jammed up in there, like how rocks get jammed up in there, causing a small amount of constant distress that can prove dangerous if left unremoved.
 
also my little ponies totally have soft, cushy, convex frogs that you can push against your cheek and snuggle with. I’m fairly sure this is super canon.
