I agree, but we’d need writers who want to do the same and will be faithful to the characters.

There’s a bunch of episodes that I consider to be wasted slots but the reason I want the show to extend is so that the show has a second chance to finally do the things I want to see them do.

It’s the pain of all series that come to a close.
 
I’ll be quite honest; I’ve loved how most of the characters have grown, but I abhor how they have treated Spike and often forgotten or outright ignored his important character development. Had that sort of severe regression happened to any of the mane six where they forgot what they were doing just for the sake of an episode filled with pratfalls and a pointless lesson, you can bet the fanbase would have been a lot harsher about it (coughmaredowellcough).
 
The one thing I’ll be able to take is that this prevents too high of a writer turnover so that the entire cast becomes blithering idiots IE: the simpsons.

But I fear we will run out of stuff to come out with soon after official G4 content has all ceased.
 
I won’t abhor G5 but…..I will have a hard time leaving G4 behind.

G4 content may subside a bit, but it won’t be outright dead as this is 9 years full of characters we’ve loved.
 
There will be those who step into G5 with open arms, and those who will abhor it and remain in G4.

That’s what I’m worried about. Without any new canon material to work with, everybody will stop making pony stuff and from my ponysona’s point of view, they and their world will fade out of existence.

Yes. Otherwise we’re imagining that season 9 is the end of the G4 universe, which is silly.

I would love that. Starlight’s offer still stands as it did back in Season 6.

Would be interesting if the series closes with her reformed self being a student under Twilight and Starlight. Not like she could step out of line at that point.

It’s a nice idea, but I’ll be really surprised if there’s actually enough time left to pull that off in a well written and believable way.

As I said, I’d love to see her completely emotionally crushed, no longer hiding behind her delusion of ruling over anything and, instead, realizing and admitting she’s the scared, powerless creature she’s been since she lost her hive.
 
It would be the perfect moment for her to be picked back up by, say, Starlight, who had to undergo a similar total personality shatter before she had a chance of turning over a new leaf.

It’s because they are a people. Chrysalis clearly forced the hive aspect on them. Solitude turns them into loonies.

Changelings are innately social creatures. Solitude is clearly not good for them.

In a perfect world, I’d like to see her going all out, but being obviously outclassed. Every attack, every strike, everything is progressively more easily dispelled and deflected until she quite literally can’t do anything anymore, she burns herself out into a sobbing heap as she finally comes to terms with the fact that she has nothing left; no subjects, no rule, no backup plan, and no power.
 
This will let her build up from “nothing” into something new, but to make the new, we have to tear down the old.

I’d like to see her go full-on Azula in the end and fight Starlight like a completely unhinged maniac with not even a hair of sanity remaining. What a…..sight that would be to witness!
