Explanation is a bit vague, but basically the mare, Crispy Cream, has a thing for Zebras. Long story.
 
As shown in this pic >>1350240 she isn’t above dressing normal stallions she thinks are cute as zebras, Blackstars’ zebra legging got him in her sights. Hence the bucket of black paint.
