I don’t think you understand how words work.
The same to you, I suppose. It sounds like we disagree on what makes up a “massive coincidence” versus a light one. That doesn’t have anything to do with reasoning though, by the way; it’s a matter of judgement.
Five months haven’t helped your reasoning ability, I see. Deus ex machina is a massive coincidence, one so implausible that it might as well be an act of divine intervention, hence the name. If you’re trying to say you can’t tell the difference between what might be called an ordinary coincidence and deus ex machina, that’s on you.
So you’re argument is that coincidence is the same thing as deus ex machina? I must commit the fallacy of arguing from personal incredulity in that case.
Spike not being imprisoned is part of the long list of coincidences that were necessary for the Rainbooms to win. Ergo, it counts.
Vinyl’s music cancelling out their tune but still leaving her able to hear the Rainbooms just fine (visibly responding to an auditory cue) is the same kind of coincidence.
I wouldn’t say the other Rainbooms weren’t letting her help so much as just not asking her, big difference, and even then, it doesn’t explain or excuse the other insane, reality-warping coincidences that all work in her favor.
Your argument is the invalid one.
Spike’s failure to be imprisoned was lucky, but not a deus ex machina. Vinyl’s music garbled the Siren’s song, making her impervious. The whole movie followed the rise of Sunset Shimmer, and a central theme of the movie concerns the fact that the Rainbooms wouldn’t let her help. It was no surprise and heavily foreshadowed that she was the key to their victory. Your argument is invalid.
Maybe, and for the record, I’m not saying I’d have preferred that the sirens win (I’m not sure that would even end well for them in the long run), just that their loss not be totally contrived nonsense. As it stands? They were cheated.
Can’t have a family-friendly movie ending on a downer, right?
That Spike just so happened to be standing away from the trap door, just so happened to find Vinyl, who just so happened to be wearing headphones (that didn’t impair her hearing when they were talking to her), that the two of them just so happened to open the door at exactly the right moment (a minute earlier and the Rainbooms would have still been fighting, a minute later and it might have been too late), Vinyl just so happening to have a transforming music car, and arguably Sunset just so happening to pull an extra 8 billion gigajoules of magic out of her rear when they needed it?
The sirens had the rainbooms beaten, but the ending of Rainbow Rocks is about 2 and a half Deus Ex Machinas at once, the Rainbooms having their win all but handed to them.
Um… how were they cheated? They were villains, and they got what they deserved.
You might be too if you were cheated like the sirens were. Then again, Aria seems like the type to be a sore loser no matter whappens.
