Reminds me of an old “Tales of the unexpected” style story.  
Instead of arcade games turning teens from nice folk into antisocial violent bullies. They, in the story, do the opposite. The teen boy in the story is no longer able to defend himself from even his own mother!
 
It seems that the gang will wind up being too nice to fit back in their native habitats (except for Sandbar and Ocelus) and be forced to take menial jobs!
