the human eye picks up details best at borders and edges of things, where one color transitions quickly into another. as such, drawing every single scale by overlaying a mosaic glass stencil onto the character looks kind of funny. you should mask it out in the middle, where the human eye wouldn’t normally spot that sort of thing. you kind of have to get a feel for where to omit details like that, through looking at other pics and practicing.
