I still see so many struggling with some of these terms, mostly the last three.

I somehow got it mixed up. It was “filly” that was being used for both genders. It’s no less wrong, but I just feel stupid for getting my own reason for posting this wrong.
But boy and girl do imply youth.
Colt cant be used for both genders. If someone wrote that they are wrong. That is not an opinion its a fact.
Yes but that is because Girl does not refer to a child. Neither does boy. They are totally interchangeable here, Mare and Filly are not interchangeable.
Then clearly those authors have no idea what they’re talking about.
I’ve read fanfics where colt was used for both genders.
Actually, I think we can give that a pass as we still refer adult women as “girlfriends”, I’ve never heard a guy call his lover his “womanfriend”.
Yes because filly friend would imply the Mare in question is a child.
Suggestive
…“fillies and gentlecolts” is an actual expression used by adults to crowds of adults in the show. Why is it such a big deal?

I can see the need for punishment for those offenses but CASTRATION!? wtf! seems a bit extreme doesnt it?
Father=Sire
Gelding=Anypony who makes Fluttershy cry, pops Pinkie’s balloons without asking or breaks a pinkie promise, defaces one of Twilight’s library books, behaves indecently towards Applebloom or Sweetie Belle in their big sisters’ presence, takes Dash’s cider from the Wonderbolts break room fridge, etc.

Not exactly, I’ve seen some people call fully grown stallions colts, same for calling fully grown mares fillies.
