I like Sunset’s outfit here. In particular, I like the orange short-sleeve shirt with the cutie mark and the fuchsia skirt which are both nice and bright. Retains her color scheme but mixes it up a bit. Some say the spikes are a bit much, like the old Fire Nation spikes or trying-too-hard rocker style with the sequins or whatever, but I don’t mind so much. Interesting that she’s wearing a full-length (leather?) vest instead of the old short jacket she would wear.

Magic in Equestria is just barely consistent, unless we ignore stuff from earlier seasons as retconned.
 
Now they wanna bring magic into Equestria Girls, with the excuses that the “magic of friendship is everywhere” (Twilight’s version) and/or the Equestrian magic that Twilight and Sunset brought into that world from the Element of Magic is the source (Rainbow Rocks) to now the entire magic of Equestria is leaking into their world (Friendship Games and partially Legend of Everfree) to now the EqG world has its own magic in the geodes (Legend of Everfree and the specials).
 
You can call it progression, but I think it’s just a mess where they’re making it up as they go along with barely regard. I would rather an actual high school AU without magic at this point. Sunset love, you would much rather go back to Equestria and deal with your actual magic.
 
The geode idea HAS potential as a sort of reincarnation of the Elements of Harmony without compromising the integrity of the original Elements (I would love for the geodes to be a universal type thing, they work in both world and two new geodes introduced, Sunset’s Geode of Empathy and Starlight’s Geode of Sympathy but that would only really work IF there’s a connection to Equestria which Hasbro doesn’t want so… we’re left with a bunch of ideas that grow arms and legs but ultimately do nothing with them.
 
They have a gold mine but are too scared to dig. And that described Hasbro well for a long time until recently.

I’m hoping that one of the recurring these is the introduction of and exploration of Human magic - magic native to the world they are in, rather than it always being from Equestria.
