Seeing these two screenshots together just re-emphasizes three absolute facts about EqG in the present day:

Applejack, despite her lack of interest in dressing fashionably, is somehow always the best dressed human. The baseball tee and denim skirt of her new outfit is particularly “BEST OUTFIT EVER,” as a certain yak would put it.
It reminds us they got rid of Sunset’s best outfit for something wanting to mimic her outfit but color swapped and spikier. Much spikier. I’m guessing they did this because I believe Hasbro must have enacted a “one pair of pants” rule, and it was Rainbow Dash’s turn to wear pants, so Sunset had to go back to a skirt, but since everyone else got new duds… That, and I guess they had just played a buttload of Shadow the Hedgehog and thought, “We liked her first outfit, but it wasn’t edgy enough. What it needs is… pointy. WE LIKE POINTY.”
Equestria Girls is now strong enough to stand on its own without its original series propping it up all the time.
