You know thinking about it now the best thing she could do in this situation is talk to Princess Luna and explain to her how much this means to her and all that. With any luck Luna would understand and give the position back to Twilight.
Who in their right mind sends a letter saying ‘We would like for you to come here to do this’, only to have another letter follow up and say ‘Nevermind, we got someone else!’
It honestly would’ve made more sense to do so if Twilight went past the deadline for the speech while spending weeks on it, but this…Not even a better reason beyond a last-minute substitute…
People should take note of what Twilight is writing. It’s sort of a hidden message of this episode and all the things happening to Twilight. Sort of her inner mindset.
“…and it is through perseverance … through your challenges you will find your reward…”
What’s worse is that this started right after she broke up with Greg.
That is simply not true. Things were going very well for Twilight for a long while after Greg. Best evidence, look at the episode, “Completely Free” which sums up Twilight’s weight being lifted from being in a relationship.
There have been 55 episodes since Twi broke up with Greg. Let me break it up for you between positive towards Twi, neutral, and negative. Obviously not every episode is about Twilight, so the numbers won’t add up to 55. These negatives also include when she messed up on things but it doesn’t actually effect her other then embarrassment.
This is between Twi’s break up with Greg to September 26th.
Positive:10
Neutral:11
Negative:3
The real turning point came on September 28th’s episode at the end of Twi’s F.A.R.T. night with her friend’s and she has just been unlucky since then.
Positive:1
Neutral:2
Negative:2
And even if we combine the numbers after Sep 28th, the negative’s don’t beat positive or neutral episodes that don’t negatively effect her.
What’s worse is that this started right after she broke up with Greg.
Does… does the artist not realize the implications? “If you break up with your boyfriend, you will be put through endless bad luck and suffering.” Yeah, that’s TOTALLY funny and relatable.
@Jarkes
If it was them who reached out to Luna then yes, they could have informed her earlier.
If it was Luna who contacted them, then maybe she did it at the last minute and this is as soon as possible for them to sent Twi the letter.
@Background Pony #6B09
Yeah, but they could have informed her of that BEFORE she spent weeks writing a speech.
The university didn’t know. Probably they got word from Luna later then they expected and had to reshuffle for her instead of Twilight. They wouldn’t know Twilight’s circumstances or that she had even begun the process. Given that it is October and graduations are in spring, thats plenty fair warning (though we don’t know for sure when this particular episode takes place).
This is the equivalent of giving a child an ice cream cone just to slap it out of their hand into the dirt and stomp on it before they can even taste it.

I do wonder why the Princess of Academia was passed over. Maybe they needed someone who could really project their voice?

It just seems cruel, even for this comic.
Exactly right. There was a reason.
This series excels in conflict. It’s a whole series of conflict and balance.
