I think the side view which is prevalent in the G1 art style is what bothers people, I can kind see why.

Ugly like a creepy mediaeval or early modern European woodcut, in the comics’ case. Which coincidentally might be where they pinched a lot of the stories from…
I dunno, they’re not that bad. They look more like real miniature horses, the cartoony type we have now.
Yeah, some of it is kind of meh, but there’s some magical with these horses. If there wasn’t, we wouldn’t be here. At least a little better then proceeding Gen. You know which.
