even if I was so presumptuous to claim that I know exactly how my mind works and had 100% confidence that the rest of my life was going to be spent wallowing in self-imposed misery, I still wouldn’t wish that on other people. a joyless life is a tragedy that should never be repeated, not a competition to see who can be the most emo.
@redweasel
For us it’s too late to ever feel joy or happiness ever again, but it’s not to late to make sure the children suffer as much or even worse than we do
@redweasel
Good point, what we should do is make sure kids are deprived of fun, joy, and reason for living, just like us!
At least then we can get something resembling happiness knowing they’re suffering too. That’s why I’m an anti-utilitarian, because if I have to suffer, I’m going to make sure everyone else does too
Why is it that as we get older, its harder to make those more fun occasions possible?
the question you oughta ask is why are all those fun occasions only possible for children? you’re seeing that something’s wrong: we’re working all the time, helping out employers while neglecting our friends. we’re “investing” in the future, and then just spending the rest of our lives working off debts and mortgages. that’s a problem that we need to solve, but going back to childhood wouldn’t solve it, just… hide it from you.
though there are tons of other reasons to be a kid again: longer life, a second chance, being diabolically cute, and getting underestimated by the grownups. but “I wanna have fun again” shouldn’t be one, because either adults should be able to have fun too, or kids shouldn’t be so sheltered if the world’s such a horrible place that fun is impossible.
I wish I had taken the time to enjoy the simpler days. Back when friends had more time, we could all go out on Friday night and have fun or stay in and enjoy some fun games. I miss those times. Why is it that as we get older, its harder to make those more fun occasions possible? Well I am going to make sure to enjoy all future moments like these, for my far more future self!
@dsagent
This goes beyond just one game. It can be anything in general. Memories of when times were simpler, back when you had more times with friends. Life was more free. You didn’t have the same responsibilities and obligations.
Basically this. Felt a pang of nostalgia with a side of wistfulness…

Who said anything about being emo, I’m talking about being a sadistic monster

Edited because: never

I was gonna suggest making sure adults are not deprived of fun, joy, and reason for living, but… that’s thinking about someone besides the children.

well I dunno what everyone else’s problem is with their adult lives. I still don’t have any responsibilities or obligations… or friends.
