it sure fits
Yeah, this is the person who sniped someone for 5 dollars over the price for a $1505 commission.
bit of an old post but i do want to point this out. See i often have to save up for periods of time before i can buy a YCH, almost every image i have of my OC is traditional art i bought at a convention, because theres no bidding, and i have saved up. SO my issue with this particular OC is that they have been sniping bids back and forth for a long time now, and someone like myself, who has to save up for weeks, or even months if i want a high dollar commission, is kind of getting screwed out of our ability to buy art
I do try commissions of course, but those are just as hard to get from the top tier artists out there, and getting an animation is the worst. I find that as the popularity of YCHs grows, more and more people make getting a normal commission harder and harder to do, or your favorite artists will have their commissioned closed for months at a time, only to open 5 slots one day and you miss out on it because you where at work, making the YCH option just a bit easier. Assuming the art piece you want doesnt get sniped by someone auto bidding $400 on a bid that started at $2.
Now that you’ve said all of that, I suddenly feel a deep respect for you
But of course! Since my end goal is to help out artists I’d rather lose an honest bidding war that gets them more money in the end than win by sniping an auction at the last minute for just barely more than the previous bid.
I’m also not unaware of the feelings SnoopyStallion expressed. If there’s already a bidding war going on between others on an auction that I only kind of want, I’ll pass it by. Sure, the artist might not get as much in these situations but maybe that $25 that someone else bid is the only disposable income they have to get art of their character and I don’t want to take that from them.
I mean this in the least critical way, but you must not spend much time looking at the trending category. For awhile, this character was showing up 1.5 times as a separate YCH winner per day. Per day. It’s nice to see someone referencing an episode; but, I need to retort that Pinkie’s actions were on the low end of the scale: eyebrow-raising, but nothing awful. Now, if she was buying half the Apple stock just to chuck it all into a warehouse, that would be a better example. A bit of an exaggeration, but I don’t think you’re getting the point that a lot of people are getting spurned with this behavior, not just one pony. I’m not even one of them; I don’t order commissions of my character, because frankly, I’m too vain and would be nitpicky about the details. But I’m empathic, so I’m bothered. Half of all of Alcor’s YCHs go to one of this guy’s characters.
@ElderlyWalrus
You know, good on you, sir. Yours is the other character I’m not fond of because of its frequency and robots aren’t my thing, but good on you for adding your two bits in a polite, mature way. I should add that while your character shows up quite often, your bidding histories have been more respectable. Your focus looks more to be making a solid bid than simply winning whatever auction you set your eyes on.

“And its unknown to us what drives those wealthy bidders of kiva and aqua.”
If I may, as creature of and bidder for Kiva, could I direct you to this comment I made a year ago? I haven’t changed my mind, what I said then still applies.

“As I mentioned, I don’t have a creative bone in my body so I respect and am in awe of artists. That leads to me wanting to support their hobby/livelihood, which leads to me gobbling up auctions as an excuse to send them money. That I get art out of it is usually just a bonus.”
Same. People can buy what they want and have whatever characters they like whether guys on a pony site likd it or not
I don’t quite get why there’s so much controversy that goes on over how much expendable income people have, and what they use it for.
Depends. At auctions things just go crazy all the time. Its not always the:” i want to support the artist as much as possible.” Its just also like:” i want that. Only meee and noone else get that. I have the biggest (wallet)”. There are many types of bidders. You just mentioned the artist supporter. Of course they are a thing. But the other types too. And its unknown to us what drives those wealthy bidders of kiva and aqua. So yeah. We can only speculate. My point still stands. They appear too often for my taste. I dont bid on ychs. So i dont care if they burn all their money there. But i can see that others may are disappointed that they will never get an ych when rich people are involved in the bidding process.

Remember when Rainbow Dash never got any Cider? Imagine if she shouted at Pinkie and accused her of not even wanting cider, and of just wanting to keep others from having it. It’d change the episode into being about Dash as the villain. Of course Dash is not nuts enough to make such a claim. But you are apparantly.
I’ve never even seen this character before. There are many artists who do go out and snag every slot they can find like it’s all they do all day, but that still is not bad. There is no such thing as greed when it comes to keeping all these artists living happily with their job. It’s not greed to give so much money to so many people. You’re just angry, and want this person to be a villain. But they are not.
Pretty much; but there can be more to it. YCH’s are, without a doubt, good for the artists, but most (especially the big names) won’t find themselves with a lack of takers. If a person takes part in them occasionally with the intent to win, that’s fine, but there’s a scale. After a point, it becomes not a matter of winning, but others losing. It’s an indulgence of vanity at the expense of others. When you could have had a divided sense accomplishment among many people in a multitude of auctions, it’s instead all consolidated to one selfish person. Then there’s a matter of value: shame on the person that would try and claim daily winnings hold the same significance to a person that has a folder of 300 images of their character already, compared to someone that just has one or two and was waiting for their favorite artist to open a slot.
Heard of Lance Armstrong? He’s rather despised in the sports industry over the revelation that he was doping to achieve his many, many victories in cycling. He unabashedly used an unfair advantage to its fullest extent to secure win after win rather than exercise some restraint, taking victories from a great number of people that arguably deserved it more. This sort of behavior with YCH’s isn’t any different.
There can be a number of ways to sour the spirit of a character art auction, and this buyer (who I guess I should leave nameless since the artist didn’t announce it) hits most of them.
That said, it’s beautiful work VallSh, I just wish you hadn’t got caught up with this one.
I wouldn’t say its a stupid question. I guess 900-ish users just like the style.
No, I don’t mind the OC, it’s just how some of these get trending.
Yes, it sounds like a retarded question but I really don’t care about any question I make, stupid or not.
True! Her design is very nice unlike a red and black oc
Yeah. The design is decent. Would be much worse with an super edgy alicorn OC xD
Fair enough, If I was rich and had a good character I’d probably do the same. I’m sure a lot of us would. You can always filter this out and honestly theres much worse ocs out there.
Maybe its just because it seems that those owners want to buy themselves into the spotlight? So everyone just knows them and that they are rich AF? I dont really know. I just got bored to see them eeevery siiingle time i visited the page. But with that they reached their goal i guess. Now i know those OC just as good as CC. Only with a bad memory about them xD but its not hate. I just dont want to see those OCs so often.
It’s really unneeded hate. There are much more reasonable things to get mad at than some person’s character.
