I think you don’t know what tsundere means.
She’s just pissed about her dad’s actions.
What and how we create usually reflects our culture, in other words.
And I remember the wallet thing from Garfield, both the old cartoon and the comics.
I think this shows I was brought up on too many old Looney Tunes and MGM cartoons, hence my assumption :P
@ArgentBanner
I always struggle with how to put things into words (This is why I’m an illustrator, not an author!) but I think this sums it up perfectly, thanks ArgentBanner! I’m not trying purposefully to make everything have a English feel to it, but when you’re surrounded by it, it’s hard not to let a little bit creep in every now and again.
True. Still, I don’t think I’ve noticed it before, though I’m not very observant.
I think it also depends on your age. People still do this but replace the “wallet” with a “smart phone.” If you’re old, you still put the photos in your wallet.
I think us Americans are too touchy about U being in British versions in that case.
As for photos in wallets, I never seen it in real life other than being sold, mostly in old cartoons.
@hironakamura
So we have also had (photo) wallets in Germany since the 1950s. After the war we were very eager to emulate the American model. Almost everything that came from the US was hip and trendy. Fashion, music and even wallets that came up with the first credit cards. Just mentioning. :-)
Picture of your kids in a wallet isn’t particularly American. I think people do that if you’re the kind of type of person to do that. I know someone from work who is like that and he’s Asian too. Granted, he’s relatively a new dad. His kids are 1 and 3 years old.
While I see Bob’s argument that he doesn’t overtly try to make ponies British except Octavia, and feel that it does have merit, there are a lot of little bits of British culture and geography to be seen in and around his ponies, especially with Octavia and her friends and family. It’s not cultural posturing or even mostly intentional, it’s simply “write who you know” in action. I’m horrified that people are giving him crap over spelling; GIFT is a thing, as much as we don’t like it.
And it is SO GREAT to put some British humour and gags in the characters and situations.
Or any other kind of cultural habit.
What can I say, they bounce off of eachother really well!

I must admit, I’m a little stumped as well. Looking back, the last reference I can find to any British tradition would be:
Roughly eight months ago, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong! (And for the avoidance of any doubt, this is more of a Scots tradition!) A lot of the time though, particularly in earlier days, real life events would inspire something, so it makes sense to have a similar setting.
Contrary to popular belief, I don’t actually try to interpret ponies as British, the only exception to the rule being Octavia. Though I am aware it may not come across as such with my use of spellings and turns of phrase (It can be genuinely scary how angry some people can get in private messages to me adding a ‘U’ in colour!) I am very sorry if this upsets you.
As a little side note to bring this conversation back to this image though, I’m sure (As stated earlier by Hironamakura) every culture has an ‘embarrassing photos’ moment. Over here in the uk though the idea of having a wallet full of photos is portrayed very much as an American thing, mainly in imported media. Purely out of interest, is there any truth in this?

Just asked curiously as a German: What is actually British here now? I honestly never paid any attention. (_)

And? Why should it stop him from having fun making them British?
Look through a lot of his other comics. He has the MLP characters saying or doing things that we simply don’t do here in America.
What’s British about this? My mom did the exact same thing with the family album whenever I brought home new friends. And I’m asian.

I really want to see this picture.
