No, it was a magic ball that gives bad luck, which the Storm King destroyed. The Staff was the only thing that was never explained in any of the side content for the movie.

If that’s really Storm King, I have three questions
  1. Who’ll be voicing him?
  2. How did he end up in the human world?
  3. How is he still alive after being turned to stone and broke into pieces?!
Aparently only his magic survived afterbhis death and probably it managed to end onto the human world Probably in that other portal that the girls find on the desert island
